‘American Idol’ season 15 video: One audition pulls at the heartstrings

The news -

It really did not take long at all for “American Idol” to start to get a little bit emotional in its promotional campaign for the upcoming fifteenth season. Fox is clearly well aware that people do get choked-up still watching these sort of moments from time to time, and the latest promo (via People Magazine) is the latest example of that.

In this promo, you see a teenage contestant named Tristan get a surprise after her audition courtesy of a note from her mother, who seems to be stationed overseas and is unable to attend. Harry Connick Jr. reads it out, and it only takes her a few minutes before she starts to get a little choked up. After all of this, it’s not altogether a shock that she moves on to the Hollywood Week stage.

Is the show really sweating the small stuff anymore when it comes to revealing who makes it to Hollywood? It doesn’t seem like, probably because there are so many people who get that far that a spoiler or two doesn’t mean anything. The real meat of the competition both this and every year comes when the field starts to narrow down below fifty, and we start to remember at least a good chunk of the people who are trying out.

Ultimately, the only hope that we have for this final season is that we find someone who we enjoy watching and remember for years following their appearance. At this point, it feels pretty unlikely that we’re going to be getting someone who will sell millions of albums.
