NBC’s ‘The Voice’ castoff Evan McKeel reacts to elimination

VoiceNow that we’re getting into the home stretch of “The Voice,” we actually know about some of the contestants to write a little bit about them saying goodbye. Today, we’re putting the focus primarily on Evan McKeel.

What Evan did that was pretty great over the course of the contest was show great charisma, style, and flair on the stage. There weren’t too many other artists who were like his stylistically, and he got on a good team given that Pharrell Williams was the coach who won last year with Sawyer Fredericks.

So where did things go wrong for him? We’d say that to a certain extent, being more eclectic may have hurt him in the show, to go along with not having a particular style or narrative. While there are some exceptions like Sawyer, typically contestants who make it far have a very easy story to relate to, and are often from a particular genre a la country music. Other times, the winners are people who are heavily promoted. So far this season, Jordan Smith has been that person. He deserves much of the acclaim that he is getting, but he has received screen time at very good points in almost every live show, and has been featured near the end of every one.

In the video below, you can see Evan react to his experience on the show, and he also explains in here that Jordan has actually become one of his better friends that he has made.
