‘Major Crimes’ renewed for season 5, per star Tony Denison
How’s this for something to be thankful for right before Thanksgiving? Several episodes into its fall run, “Major Crimes” has been renewed for a fifth season. The news was announced by star Tony Denison (Andy) on Twitter, and this is a cause for great celebration.
Was this renewal a sure thing? We were never extremely worried, even though we did see some speculation that the extended fourth season could be a way for TNT to close out its run. We always thought this was more just a way to get more programming on the air early next year, and it turns out that this theory was correct.
“Major Crimes” remains a significant force for TNT, driving viewers and solid ratings to the network; while we know that executives have pushed for a wider array of series as of late beyond just crime procedurals, it is nice to see that they aren’t forgetting about this genre, and the success that it has brought them over the years. “The Closer” was not only the foundation for “Major Crimes,” but really the entirety of the network’s original programming in one way or another.
One thing that is interesting about the rest of “Major Crimes” this season is that they are even shifting somewhat from their typical format, at least for some of the newly-ordered season 4 episodes. They will be telling more of a continuous arc with those installments; for now, there are still some arcs to go along with the cases of the week, such as Andy’s health and Rusty’s attempts to speak with Slider.

It is nice to see that with some of the one and done shows that they have been bringing on that the execs finally realized what MC brings to the table….TNT viewers! I was one of those people who was extremely concerned, particularly with the path the storyline is heading.
