‘Reign’ season 3 to have lengthy midseason hiatus

Reign -Tough news today for everyone who loves “Reign“: You’re going to have to wait a rather long time to see what happens in Mary’s journey following the upcoming midseason finale.

It has been announced by The CW that following the show’s midseason finale on January 22, the show is taking an indefinite hiatus as the network tries some other things. We specifically wrote yesterday that we are going to see “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” moving to Friday nights, and it is fairly clear to us that the network is interested in seeing if they can finally uncover something that draws consistently solid ratings in that timeslot. “reign” has not really improved on the recent performance of “Hart of Dixie,” and given the sadness surrounding what happened to Francis, it is not that difficult to imagine that some people may not be as interested anymore.

Luckily, we do think that even with this lengthy hiatus, there is one reason to have hope still for this show: Its studio. The CW likes to pride itself on being a true collaboration between studios CBS TV and Warner Bros., and at the moment the only studio that they really have huge hits with is the latter. They need to keep some other CBS shows around, and other than “Reign,” “Jane the Virgin,” and “Crazy Ex Girlfriend,” the only other notable show is the soon-to-be-over “Beauty and the Beast.”

Could the adventures of Mary work well in the summer? That is something we are intrigued about in the event that the show does not find a regular place on the schedule in the near future.
