‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings: Adele, Matthew McConaughey bring ratings boost

SNL -Who knew that Adele and Matthew McConaughey would be the next-best thing to Donald Trump when it comes to getting “Saturday Night Live” higher ratings this weekend? It may sound odd, but this is precisely what happened based on the numbers that we now have.

As a whole, the show drew a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is the best number that “SNL” has had this season other than the Donald Trump episode. This is great news for the show, given that the McConaughey episode was at least reasonably funny, and hopefully it did enough to convince some fans of either the singer or the Oscar winner to come back and watch the show again in the future. The Trump show, meanwhile, was a complete disaster and it is hard to envision anyone being that passionate about wanting to see the show again following that.

For those looking for a baseline comparison, most episodes of “SNL” this season have been in the 1.9-2.0 range.

The show is going on hiatus for the next week, but when it returns on December 5, it will kick off a series of three shows hosted by very popular people: Ryan Gosling, Chris Hemsworth, and eventually Tina Fey and Amy Poehler doing it together for the Christmas show on the 19th. This will also have Bruce Springsteen, and we anticipate this show coming close to matching the Trump numbers. (We’d love to see it as the #1 show of the season, but who knows if people will be focusing enough on TV at that time to watch?)
