ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 10 preview: Can Huck change his stripes?

There were so many events that took place on the “Scandal” winter finale, with the Planned Parenthood filibuster and the abortion by Olivia Pope, that it can be somewhat easy to overlook everything that was going on with Huck. His decision to let Rowan go without violence is a game-changer for this character. He didn’t hurt him, and nor did he threaten him. He decided that it was better off to leave him be. For this character, that is some unprecedented action.

So does this mean that he has seen the light, and the path to someday getting his family back? This is something that Guillermo Diaz does discuss more at length to TV Guide in a new interview:

“I think he’s a changed man. He’s trying really hard. It’s just a small tiny glimpse in what Shonda [Rhimes] has in mind. I don’t even know for sure what’s gonna happen after Huck drops Rowan off and Jake shows up at the house. There’s a lot there that we, the actors, don’t know about it. But for Huck, it was a little bit of a test for himself to see if he can do this. Can he be in the presence of this man who has ruined his life basically and not torture him or kill him? And he did it. Huck knows that that’s what he needs to do and that’s who he needs to be in order to be with his family again.”

We’re of course rooting for Huck to make his way out of this emotional mire okay, and we feel like he deserves happiness when the dust settles. It’s just too bad for him that in the world of Shonda Rhimes, no one has happiness guaranteed.
