NBC’s ‘Grimm’ season 5, episode 5 preview: When a giant rat attacks

There are some episodes of “Grimm” that you can hype up by talking about specific character moments or notable guest stars. Then, there are others that you can hype up for having a giant freakin’ rat as a villain.

Next week’s new episode is entitled “The Rat King,” and this is basically the “Grimm” version of what people in Manhattan go through on a daily basis. It looks like a monster movie, and we can get behind that since these are the sort of fun, crazy stories that you watch for the sake of entertainment and nothing else. The synopsis below doesn’t really give you too much more than the promo at first, at least until you get to the part teasing Trubel’s hospitalization and what is going to be coming up for Nick:

“Nick (David Giuntoli) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) are called to the scene when three Wesen go out on a hunt at a local dump and get more than they bargained for when two turn up dead after they encounter the mythical Rat King. Meanwhile, a very badly wounded Trubel (guest star Jacqueline Toboni) is taken to the hospital and Nick finally meets Meisner (guest star Damien Puckler).”

For now, think of those final elements as proof that “Grimm” has a little bit of diversity to it, and that we’re not just getting a story about Ratzilla. We don’t know why we’re so obsessed with this villain! Maybe it’s because it is so simple, and yet at the same time so ridiculous.
