‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: Are any scenes between Meredith, Riggs coming up?

When “Grey’s Anatomy” season 12 first cast Martin Henderson in a significant role, there was one question that was asked by many almost right away: Is it possible that his character of Nathan Riggs is going to be a new love interest for Meredith Grey? Down the line, we suppose that anything is possible here. However, for the time being that does not seem to be where the focus is at.

Instead, Shonda Rhimes and the writers have come up with a story that we think is rather wonderful here for this character, given that it revolves mostly around Riggs trying to handle the fact that he and Owen are working together, even though there is this terrible event in their past that Owen cannot let go of. All we can assume right is that, based on what Meredith pieced together at the end of the winter finale, it involved Owen’s sister. Since she has that knowledge, she now has a very interesting reason to spend time around the new doc insofar as a subject of conversation goes.

In laying out where the story could go from here between these two characters, Henderson had the following to say to Entertainment Weekly:

“There’s definitely some stuff where Meredith and Riggs butt heads … He starts pushing back and starts getting quite frustrated with her and tempers start to flair. That starts to then threaten their ability to do their job and actually take care of their patients because of all the infighting. It becomes a sticky situation all around.”

Maybe Meredith finds something in Riggs that she likes eventually, but let’s be clear: It doesn’t seem to be a priority right now.
