Crossover November: What could a ‘Scream Queens,’ ‘American Horror Story’ pairing look like?

Scream Queens -If there is one thing we have learned at this point about executive producer Ryan Murphy, it is that this is a man who loves to think outside the box and be creative. He does that with “Scream Queens” and “American Horror Story” separately, so why not find a way to do that together? He’s already connected multiple seasons of his anthology show together, so throwing in Chanel and/or Hester wouldn’t be that hard … or would it?

In this particular edition of Crossover November, we are going to take a look at what the advantages and disadvantages of such a move would be, before leaving it open to you in order to determine whether or not you want to see this happen.

The case for the crossover – Both are scare-based shows with a ton of famous people in the case, both share executive producers, and of course both like to be at times weird and wacky. It’s not too difficult to imagine a world where Chanel stumbles across the Murder House, or that Chad Radwell and John Lowe are secretly long-lost relatives. Would it be crazy and make little sense? Sure, but you have to remember here that “American Horror Story” once let Jessica Lange do a song-and-dance number during “Asylum” for virtually no reason whatsoever. Maybe it’s just a dream sequence that pits the shows / some characters together for a few minutes, but it could still be fun.

The case against it – The biggest one is mostly a network one. FX and Fox are in the same family, but they like to be thought of as separate entities. Also, there’s a reason we’re suggestion a small dream sequence or a cameo from just an actor or two as an idea: These show are so different from each other in tone that doing a full crossover would just be too jarring. “Scream Queens” is far funnier, and the scares much cheesier.

We’ve come up with several different results in talking through some of these crossover ideas this month: There are the slam dunks, the feasible ones, the ones best saved for fanfiction, and then the ones that should never be discussed again. There’s worthy discussion here … but maybe it is better served if it is written by fans online rather than incorporated into an actual episode or two.
