‘Longmire’ renewed for season 5 by Netflix
Great news for all of those “Longmire” fans out there: There’s no more waiting to learn the future of the show. Netflix has officially renewed the Robert Taylor – Lou Diamond Phillips series for a fifth season, which you will have a chance to enjoy in 2016. Our assumption would be that based on the timing, the show will probably be filmed around the same time as season 4.
We always felt reasonably confident about the chances for the show to return, largely because it would not have made a whole lot of sense for Netflix to bring it back and not hype season 4 as the final season unless they had strong intentions to make this into a show that lasts a long time. They clearly saw some great streaming data before they acquired it in the first place, and the timing of this renewal now means that the service liked what they saw in the month and a half since the show was available for subscribers.
We’ll probably have more news on the renewal in due time, but for now, just be happy that the show is coming back. It’s also a relief thanks to the way that the fourth season ended with Walt being attacked right in the middle of a passionate moment with Dr. Monahan. There will be a new mystery to be uncovered right away, and we figure many more will unravel over the course of the season.
If you are reading this and have not seen “Longmire,” our advice is to go watch it immediately. Season 4 in particular was sensational television, one that combined procedural elements at times with a longer narrative that was incredibly compelling. It may be the most underrated series of the year so far.
