Is ‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17, episode 7 new tonight on NBC?
For all of those who love “Law & Order: SVU,” the NBC show has treated you rather nicely so far this season. You’ve had new episodes every Wednesday starting with two on September 23. With that, you knew that sooner or later there was going to have to beat at least one repeat.
Well, that moment is going to be coming up on Wednesday, as there is no new episode for us to write about or discuss. Instead, the network is airing two episodes of “Chicago PD” as a way to get the two series on the same page when it comes to episode count. Maybe these two “Chicago PD” installments are tied together thematically in some way, since otherwise there is not really that much logic behind the decision to do things in the way in which they are choosing to do this versus just pairing the two together all season long. (We think “SVU” benefited from having a two-hour premiere, but we think it could have been split into separate episodes and still been okay.)
When the series returns on November 4, it is going to be doing so with “Patrimonial Burden,” a story that has that “ripped from the headlines” feel to it all across the board. The family at the center of the story is going to be the show’s version of the famed Duggar family from “19 Kids and Counting,” and they will have a potential headline-making story on their hands when a 13-year old in the family is pregnant. How will they handle that? Let’s just say that this could be one of the reasons why they become the focus of a case. They are going to be thinking about the pregnancy as a “blessing,” but there is of course more to this story than they may be letting on at face value.
We’ll have further coverage of this story in due time, so stay tuned.

Congratulations NBC! Here was a chance to at least try to finish first or second on a Wednesday night with a new episode of SVU, and what do you do, NOT SHOW ONE! EMPIRE isn’t on because of the World Series, and NBC decides to run a 2 hour CHICAGO PD. NBC will probably run new episodes of SVU all November against new episodes of EMPIRE. How many times will they beat out EMPIRE? Probably ZERO! If the Mets somehow extend the World Series to 7 games, then NBC can run a new episode of SVU on a night without EMPIRE. Will the 2 hour PD beat out Modern Family/Black-ish and Criminal Minds, then still rank high against CODE BLACK? I guess we’ll see. Was this decision by NBC a sweeps decision? Did they do this because the World Series and the Republican Debate are both on tonight? I can’t find anything. Maybe someone else has?
