‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5, episode 2 spoilers: What happened in Camelot?

Once -When we first saw the promo for Sunday night’s new “Once Upon a Time” episode “The Price” after the episode first aired, one of our immediate concerns was that it did not give you anything that seemed to take place in Camelot. Was the show really going to gloss over all of that?

As it turns out, not so much. ABC unveiled the full synopsis for this particular installment on Tuesday (per SpoilerTV), and it makes it clear that most of King Arthur’s court is actually going to be happy to see many of our heroes alive per the recent prophecy. However, things are going to turn awry pretty quickly, which is something that you probably figured from the moment that you saw the characters wake up in Storybrooke:

“In an effort to protect Emma, Regina steps up in a surprising way that will test her mettle as a force for good. King Arthur and Queen Guinevere throw a royal ball to welcome the heroes to Camelot, but when the celebration takes a deadly turn, David and Robin must leap into action or lose a crucial asset in the fight to save Emma. Back in Storybrooke, Hook deploys a tried-and-true technique in hopes of bringing Emma back to the light while the heroes discover that some unexpected baggage has followed them home from Camelot.”

While we suppose that the show could technically get away with not actually showing you much of what happened in Camelot if they really wanted to, there is a logical reason to tell some of the story this way: It sets up a little bit of narrative growth to show you how Emma became the Dark Swan in full, and at the same time it actually keeps you from having to wait to see her in action. This is the show’s way of having its cake and eating it.
