‘Ink Master’ exclusive: Tyler Nolan talks elimination, Marisa LaRen and life after Ink Master

Every artist left on this season of “Ink Master” deserves to be there, there’s no doubt about it, but when we heard the judges say that they were sending Tyler Nolan home last week we thought we heard them wrong. Once it sunk in that they were actually sending him home our disappointment was followed by a lot of swearing and angry hand gestures over at the CarterMatt offices when we realized that our predictions of him being in the finale were over.

Now that our disappointment with losing Tyler has subsided, we had a chance to talk to him about his experience being a contestant on “Ink Master”. We were pleased to learn that Tyler is exactly the same in real life as he was on the show – passionate, fun and speaks his mind. Check out what he had to say about his time on “Ink Master”, his relationship with Marisa LaRen and more.

CarterMatt: We have to say that we are shocked that you were eliminated this week and were certain that you would be in the finale – what do you think went wrong?

Tyler Nolan: Honestly I think Duffy or Kruseman should have gone home. Pretty sure the only reason I [went] home was because I didn’t stick up more for the tattoo I did. Duffy should of went home 100%, her tattoo was s***, I at least did a cool tattoo still. The judges didn’t like it apparently either. In the end they messed up sending me home.

We haven’t seen much in the way of alliance game play in Ink Master in the past and you were part of a dominant alliance all season: Do you feel that being in an alliance helped you more so then if you weren’t in an alliance at all?

It definitely helps having a teammate at least until the end. It also makes it a bit more fun. We made our own strategies and 90% of the time they worked and we kicked someone off.

We saw you and Marisa LaRen start up a relationship on the show (first Ink Master power couple!) – What was it like being part of a romantic couple in this type of stressful environment?

Marisa and I tried to keep it a bit of a secret at first, but it really didn’t effect anything in the house. No one ever put us up against each other.

What did you find was the most difficult challenge this season?

The most difficult challenge would of been the painting with fire for me. It was just a weird medium to use and very hard to work with. The challenge would have been way better if we were actually able to hold the torches.

Out of all the tattoos you produced this season, which one were you most proud of?

I didn’t really get to do anything on the show that I feel really represents my style back home and what I do on a daily basis. So with that said I would have to be most proud of the tattoo I did with my buddy Matt on his sister Racheal. He was so excited to be there that day and get to draw with us. I enjoyed every bit of that day for sure.

With the show currently airing right now, have you found that every day life has changed for you?

Everyday life has definitely changed for me haha… Marisa and I have a house now along with our small zoo. Everywhere we go people take pictures with us and tell us they love the show. My client base is growing by the minute and I’m finally happy with the shop I’m tattooing at. I have no complaints really, the show did great for me.

If people want to book you for a tattoo, what’s the best way for them to do that?

The best way to book with me would be either on my website at TylerNolanTattoos.com or simply email me at [email protected]

We want to give a special thanks to Tyler for talking with us about his experience on Ink Master. He was a lot of fun to watch, and produced some really rad tattoos. It’s disappointing we won’t see him in competing in the finale, but he did a great job on the show and we were happy he was part of it.
