‘Empire’ season 2, episode 2 preview: Where does Cookie go in ‘Without a Country’?
For a good percentage of “Empire’s” season 2 premiere on Wednesday night, we started to assume that maybe Cookie Lyon was going to really get one over on Lucious behind bars. Thanks to Mimi Whiteman, the new and uber-rich mogul played by Marisa Tomei, the entire plan to take over the company went completely kaput. Why do these people think that they can make Empire Entertainment into something that is not all about Lucious? It’s crazy talk!
Well, next week’s episode “Without a Country” is going to be all about Cookie’s next move, and on her priority list is finding a new way in order to make her presence felt. While this happens, we’re going to see Jamal go down a particularly cunning route, and Lucious do some more shocking moves in order to ensure that he gets preicsely what he wants:
“Cookie and her cohorts decide to start their own small record label, but it’s off to a bumpy start as everyone has different visions for the new label. As his first project for the new company, Hakeem decides to form a girl group and woos a hot Latina lead singer (guest star Becky G.), proving that he can be more than just an artist. Meanwhile, Lucious, feeling extra pressure from a bloodthirsty prosecutor, hires a new lawyer (guest star Andre Royo) and records an epic track from inside jail. In Lucious’ absence, Jamal neglects his music and makes business moves that further his journey toward becoming every bit as ruthless as his father.”
Based on what we’re hearing right now, let’s just say that this season is going to waste no time getting crazy, exciting, and dramatic. Also, remember that Lucious is not going to be behind bars forever!
