‘The Walking Dead’ season 6 spoilers: Does Jesus casting bring us closer to Negan?

twdBaseball bat and all, Negan is the elephant in the room for fans of “The Walking Dead.” He is a character who many have anticipated appearing on the show for some time, given that he is one of the Robert Kirkman comic series’ most notorious villains. He is mean, he is cruel, and he is extremely brutal.

Still, we cannot confirm one way or another that this is a character who will be appearing during season 6; however, we can at least tell you that the show has just brought someone on who in the comics does have a connection to him. According to Deadline, Tom Payne (“Luck”) has been cast in the role of Paul Monroe a.k.a. Jesus, and will appear more than likely in the second half of the season. He is a well-connected guy in the comics who works to improve trade between some of the remaining survival communities … but he also brings Negan closer to Alexandria than ever before.

While it is not clear if the show will take him in a familiar direction, our suspicion is that they will given that it only feels like they can hold off for so long before finally just deciding to give the people what they want. We don’t think to begin with that the show is deliberately trying to deprive anyone of Negan, but instead setting things up as well as possible for when he ultimately appears. The beginning of the setup was bringing the group to Alexandria in the first place; now, we have to wait for chaos to arrive.
