‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17 spoilers: First look at ‘Transgender Bridge’
There are many things in which “Law & Order: SVU” continually strives to do, with one of the biggest ones being working to tell some of the most relevant stories possible to what is going on in the news. That is why we’ve seen them take on such topics as celebrity culture, online threats, and even in the upcoming September 23 premiere a case with some similarities to the infamous case of Robert Durst.
For the upcoming September 30 episode, the show is really going to be diving into transgender issues in the fittingly-titled “Transgender Bridge.” Specifically, we are talking about how one young woman is bullied and attacked in school just for being herself, and some of the ramifications that come along with that.
For some of the first details, take a look at the attached synopsis:
“15 year-old Avery Parker (guest star Christopher Dylan White) walks home from school through Fort Tryon Park when she’s surrounded by a group of rowdy boys. Taunts and jokes intensify to pushing and shoving, leaving Avery in the hospital and three assailants under arrest. When the DA’s office decides to try one of the culprits, 15 year-old Darius McCrae (guest star Dante Brown), as an adult, the SVU squad agonizes over whether the punishment fits the crime, and must deal with the pain of both families involved.”
This is a sensitive subject matter given the present climate, but we feel like for the most part, the writers of this show are very good at tackling these issues fairly and presenting all sides. We expect to see a story that explores some of the psychology behind the bullies, and also what it means to be a transgender teen in one of the most populated areas in all of America.
