MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5, episode 2 review: Jake, Jenna, and Val look towards the future
Monday night’s episode of “Awkward” is getting us closer and closer to the big graduation in Palos hills, but this episode was more about resolving personal drama than high-school issues.
For example, Jenna and Matty seem to be on slightly better terms. It’s either that, or we got a serious case of the alcohol talking a little bit. The two had a big party that was front and center after Jenna accidentally got school canceled for a day. This party was a way for many people to confront some of what they have done, including Jake for what he did with Gabby. He and Matty are still very much at odds, but it seems like Jake and Gabby are getting closer to being on the same page themselves. While we assumed for some time that Jake and Tamara were possibly endgame, could this be something that could change everything? We do at least like the two parties together.
Elsewhere, Sadie started to get some closure with her mother (who tried to buy her off first with an extremely expensive car), and it took her a long time to even realize that school had been canceled. This coincided with Val, who had been seriously living at the school, deciding that she wants to get away for a little bit of time. We’re all right with that, if for no other reason than that things with this character have gotten increasingly absurd over time.
Do we wish that more ultimately happened here? Sure, but there were a few good laughs with Sadie, and a chance to see Jake look towards his own future. Grade: B-.
