MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5, episode 2 preview: The drama between Matty, Jake continues

Monday night’s “Awkward” season 5 premiere brought forward a number of stories, but interestingly, the biggest one may not have revolved too much around Jenna Hamilton other than what she chose to do in not telling Matty the truth about what happened between Gabby and Jake.

So what is going to be coming up on the series moving forward? One of the biggest developments is going to be merely trying to figure out if there is a way for these two to repair their friendship, and for Gabby, she also has to figure out where her heart truly lies. She has seemingly severed ties with Matty, but is her future with Jake also doomed? It seems like that, if for no other reason than that she hears him talking negatively about her.

Ultimately, we do think that the show is going to have to move forward towards endgame for some of its primary couples, who include Matty and Jenna and possibly Jake and Tamara. There’s only so many more episodes in the first half of the season, and given that there is going to be a time jump after that, there could be a need for a reasonable amount of closure before them. All we really hope is that along the way, there are a few unexpected surprises and some laughs. We’d like to see the show get back to some of its early-seasons heyday before it ends.
