‘Downton Abbey’ season 6 premiere date revealed; see the emotional new trailer!
Before the premiere of “The X Factor” UK on Saturday, the folks over at ITV were kind enough to unveil a first look at the upcoming sixth season of “Downton Abbey” … and it may be enough to get you teary-eyed already.
Set to the music of “Time to Say Goodbye,” the preview clip features assorted snippets of many of your beloved characters, whether it be Mary (Michelle Dockery), Mr. Carson (Jim Carter), Edith (Laura Carmichael), or many others. There is not really enough of any one character to unlock any story secrets, but you get a sense of the ambiance, the vibe, and the sense of finality. There are eight episodes coming up including the Christmas Special, and this means that there should be enough time to properly wrap up the series. This show does accomplish more than most within the span of an hour.
Also, we’ve got a premiere date for you for the new season (at least if you are in Great Britain): Sunday, September 20. That means that the episodes prior to the Christmas Special will run until December.
We are going to be tremendously sad to see this show end (it is one of the most well-written and acted ones out there), but at the same time we are immensely grateful to have it in the first place. Few British serialized dramas last this long, or make anywhere close to the same sort of impact all over the world.
For American viewers, the show will return to PBS in January 2016.
