‘Dancing with the Stars 21’ spoilers: Paula Deen joins show in most controversial casting yet
If the goal of “Dancing with the Stars” was to introduce someone on the show that would draw infinite controversy, then they definitely got what they wanted with the Paula Deen casting.
While ABC has not confirmed this particular piece of casting news just yet, Us Weekly did report earlier today that the celebrity chef, who was fired from the Food Network over some racist remarks that she admitted to in the past, will be one of the participants in the show this season. This is an unusual move in many ways for the show to bring her on. While they have had many controversial contestants in the past, few have been accused of some of the things that the 68-year old chef has. Will viewers respond to her being a part of the show, or use this as an opportunity to cut bait? We’re not entirely sure at the moment.
Deen may be the first real miss of the show’s casting season from our standpoint. Getting former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter is a big get, and Triple Crown jockey Victor Espinoza is at least smart timing. Meanwhile, we were such a huge fan of Steve Irwin’s that we are more than happy to see the late Crocodile Hunter’s daughter Bindi on the series.
The new season of “Dancing with the Stars” will premiere on Monday, September 14. We will spend some time in the future analyzing whether or not we think that Paula will be a worthy dancer this season, but what we want to know for now is this: Does her appearance make you want to watch the show, or stop watching altogether? Vote in the attached poll.
