‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: When time travel (and ghosts!) combine

Doctor Who

The ninth season of “Doctor Who” is going to be coming your way starting in September, and we know that the show has a knack for the whimsical and creepy. Why not go ahead and mix the two together? Apparently, someone at least thought that this would be an interesting idea.

Speaking to Doctor Who Magazine, executive producer Steven Moffat revealed that for the upcoming third and fourth episodes of season 9 (written by Toby Whithouse), we are going to have a chance to see a story that takes on a variety of different bizarre topics. It sounds weird, but also imaginative and really entertaining:

“We kicked a few ideas backwards and forwards, Toby and I, for quite a while, and the one that sort of kicked him off was ‘ghosts plus time travel’. You know, if you allow both time travel and ghosts in the same universe, you can meet your own ghost. That’s the one that got his juices going. And it’s all down to him. He also wanted an underwater base, and it looks amazing. It’s an amazing set. It looks fantastic.”

Most of the episodes this season are going to be paired off in such a way, mostly as a means to give the show a little bit of a different flavor and to break up what has become known as a fairly-traditional episodic structure. Every now and then, isn’t it nice to break things up to a certain extent?
