Kathie Lee Gifford speaks about late husband Frank upon return to ‘Today’ (video)

TodayThis morning marked the first time since the passing of her husband Frank that Kathie Lee Gifford made an appearance on NBC’s “The Today Show,” and just as you would imagine, it turned out to be a very emotional segment.

In the video below, you can see Kathie Lee tribute her husband by specifically bringing up his past, and talking about just what it was for Frank to struggle so early on in his life. He grew up in the Great Depression, and it was not until after university that he started to experience a little bit of success. Gifford claims that her husband was “content” and “happy” with his life at the time of his passing, and she is at peace with what has happened. She also thanked everyone from a huge outpouring of support with the following message:

“I want to thank everybody for your love and your texts and your tweets … It’s a heck of a way to find out how loved you are. Believe me, my family and I got great strength and comfort from it.”

Eventually, we are sure that Gifford and Hoda Kotb will resume making their part of “The Today Show” into what it is best known for, which is for the most part a place for silly conversation, drinking early in the morning, and the occasional news item. This was a deviation from that, and a chance for Kathie Lee to show a more personal side. It’s a pretty raw video in some ways, so know that going into it, especially if you have followed her career for some time. The chance of you tearing up is pretty high.

Of course, our thoughts are going to continue to be with Kathie and her family during this difficult time. (Photo: NBC.)
