‘Elementary’ season 4 spoilers: First look at John Noble as Sherlock’s father!

ElementaryThe fourth season of “Elementary” is going to be premiering on CBS come later this fall, but luckily we don’t have to wait any longer before sharing what is one of the most noteworthy new additions to the crime procedural: Getting John Noble aboard as Sherlock’s father.

This is a character who has been hinted around really since the beginning of the show, and we’ll be honest: We didn’t think that the odds were particularly high we’d get an actor of Noble’s caliber. There are just so few of them out there, and we weren’t sure he would want to dive into TV again so soon after finishing up that turn on “Sleepy Hollow.” He is going to turn up almost right away, and judging from executive producer Rob Doherty says to Entertainment Weekly (who also has the first photo of Noble), his relationship with Sherlock will cause many problems:

“Once he arrives, Sherlock does not appreciate the attention or the distraction that his dad represents … For him, it’s too little too late. This is a father and a son with a very complicated history. I’d say for at least a couple decades, Sherlock’s father has been out of sight, out of mind. This is going to be a big adjustment for Sherlock to have dad nearby.”

Aside from Sherlock’s dad, one thing we are also looking forward to here hopefully is seeing more of Shelock and Joan’s partnership, which was on the danger of falling apart completely at times in the third season. With his issues he is going to rely on her more than ever, and she has shown that she is strong enough to take on many cases on her own.
