ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5 spoilers: Will there be a time jump?

Scandal -Given that “Scandal” is a show that has utilized some time jumps before in the past, it is not altogether shocking to consider the possibility that they could do so again going into season 5. That would give Elizabeth North time to settle in to her new role, allow Cyrus to figure out his next move, and also give Olivia and Fitz time to figure out their relationship with Mellie out of the White House. By the time the story picks up, they could be in a more stable place.

So is that going to happen? At least for the short-term, the answer is “no.” Show executive producer Shonda Rhimes told the audience at the TCA Summer Press Tour Tuesday that the season 5 premiere is going to start with the immediate aftermath of some events of the finale, including where we go moving forward with Mellie. We’re glad to see the show changing things up here, mostly because it feels like seeing Mellie and Cyrus figuring out their future would be a whole lot of fun, and something that really cannot be missed.

The only unfortunate thing here is of course waiting until September to figure out what is going to happen next. Even though some pieces on the chessboard have changed, we imagine that the game here will very much still be the same.

We’ll have some other updates in due time throughout the rest of the summer, so be on the lookout for some of those. (Let’s also hope that the Olivia / Fitz moment at the end of the finale was not just a tease.)
