NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 9: Selena Gomez, Brad Paisley, Missy Elliott among mentors

VoiceWe should of course start this article on “The Voice” by saying that we still do not quite understand why this show needs to have mentors for battle rounds. They serve very little purpose other than getting in a couple of soundbytes, and they are not around anymore at the time in which the coach is actually making the decision that they are.

Yet, this is still the situation that we’re in going into the new season, and we can tell you right now who some of the new mentors are going to be. According to a report from Us Weekly, you are looking at a crew that includes Selena Gomez (Gwen Stefani), Missy Elliott (Pharrell), Brad Paisley (Blake Shelton), and John Fogerty (Adam Levine). Other than Selena, is this the sort of lineup that is going to bring in young viewers? We’re not entire sure, but at least it may help us forget a little bit about the “Rising Star” series that was a complete disappointment with Paisley as one of the judges.

The new season of “The Voice” premieres on NBC this fall, and more than the coaches, the selling point this time around is going to be the crop of contestants. It has been several seasons now since any winner of the show has gone on to produce any real success on the charts; Danielle Bradbery and Cassadee Pope are the only two who really have, and they are both a part of the same genre.

The new season begins in early September. We’ll let you know if there are any other changes to the season as time passes over at the link here.
