‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: ‘The Mentalist’ alum Tim Kang snags key role

After seven years of solving crimes on “The Mentalist,” Tim Kang appears ready to venture into a little more supernatural territory on “The Vampire Diaries.”

As first reported by TheWrap, Kang is going to play the part of Oscar on the CW show. He is a guy who enjoys living out in the middle of nowhere, smoking drugs and enjoying the simple things in life. However, he is also someone who has a connection already to the Salvatore family, and thanks to some supernatural occurrences he could become a dangerous force of nature on the show.

While we don’t know how long Kang will be a part of this show, we are rather fond of the fact that it is such a drastically different role than Cho, his famed “Mentalist” character who was for the most part uptight and by-the-book. He gets to do some crazy stuff here, and be about as different personality-wise as humanly possible. Kudos to Tim on getting the part.

As for some other casting news, the site also reports that Todd Lasance (“Spartacus: War of the Damned”) is being cast as the immortal Julian, someone who is extremely charismatic and feared. He is often on the run, but he is relatively incapable of staying hidden because of his desire to be known in one way or another.

The episodes of “The Vampire Diaries” will start airing on Thursday, October 8, and there will be much more in the way of news to come out about the show before then. Stay on the lookout for it now!
