‘Girl Meets World’ episode 11 reaction: Death of a fish

Girl Meets World -Friday night’s new episode of “Girl Meets World” is what we could very easily call an outlier, mostly because it is an episode that clearly does not look or feel like many other ones. Sure, it was filmed during the first season, so the ages of the cast is one thing that’s different.

In addition to that, “Girl Meets Fish” also had a distinctive noir style to it, and revolved around Auggie’s attempts to uncover to the best of his ability who was behind the death of Riley’s class fish Chelsea. The reality here, though, was that almost everyone had killed the fish at one point or another, and simply chose to just switch her out rather than admit to doing it.

We know that for the most part, this is a show designed to be funny and lighthearted, but there were some things that this episode said about dealing with death that are important. Everyone has their own reactions to it, and guilt for many of these kids were a part of it. For Auggie, we feel like much of his “crime-solver” persona came out of his own grief, and turning it into an investigation made it a little bit easier.

We’re not going to say that this was the funniest episode of season 2 or the one that appealed to us longtime fans of the original show. This was one more for the Disney Channel crowd, and maybe one for parents to talk about with their kids once it was over. While it may be easy to just put a band-aid over your pain, talking about your feelings may really be still the best way to heal and move forward.
