‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ spoilers: ‘Mistresses,’ ‘Fargo’ alum checks in

Just in case there were not enough cast members already on “American Horror Story: Hotel” (trust us when we say that there is a lot), we do come bearing the news about another today.

As confirmed on Twitter, Helena Mattsson (“Mistresses,” “Fargo,” “666 Park Avenue”) is aboard to play a role that is for the time being kept a secret. With this show, you cannot say that “getting ready to film scary stuff” is much of a clue of anything. She is joining a cast that includes Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare, Angela Bassett and also some serious newcomers including Lady Gaga and Cheyenne Jackson. The new season from Ryan Murphy is premiering at some point this October.

Mattsson’s casting comes at a time when we are starting to at least learn a little more about the new season. Most signs point to it being contemporary in setting unlike last year’s “Freak Show,” and it being of a more traditional horror akin to “Murder House” than some of the cheesier horror that we’ve seen at times over the past two seasons. While Gaga is present, she was not cast so that she could burst into the lobby in song.

One other thing recently uncovered is that there could be some characters from past “American Horror Story” seasons that end up checking in eventually. Therefore, it is certainly possible that Mattson could encounter a person or two on the series who we have seen before.

Given that we are still early in production, more casting news more than likely will be announced. Be on the outlook for some of that in the near future.
