‘The X Factor’ UK: Simon Cowell defends selection of Nick Grimshaw as judge

The latest news -The X Factor” UK is going to be starting up a little later this summer, and there is one relatively new face to many on the panel: Nick Grimshaw. The Radio One personality may be well known to some listeners in England, he’s not a big name like fellow new judge Rita Ora.

So why pick him? It may be because Simon Cowell is finally doing the right thing here and focusing on the quality of the show first and foremost, and not just getting big names. Speaking per The Sun, Simon makes it very clear that he wants the series to continue to offer up some real critiques, and while having professional artists can be great, they often do not bring the full perspective:

“I have an issue with artists judging other artists. I would never allow a group of artists to run the record label, that would be crazy. You have to balance it up a bit.

“When I first appeared on TV, no-one knew who I was. I just ran a record label. I actually never got paid for the first time I did Pop Idol. I thought, ‘God, this is amazing. I can sit on a show and find artists. It’s fantastic’.”

The reason we feel like Grimshaw will work is because he sees firsthand often what it takes and what you need in order to get on the radio. He is not going to be judging in terms of who is a competitor in the music industry or even who he would want to sign; ultimately, he may be one of the most unbiased judges out there.
