‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: First look at Jennifer Morrison’s Dark Swan!
While it has not been necessarily confirmed just yet that Emma Swan is going to be the Big Bad for “Once Upon a Time” season 5, all early indications do seem to suggest that this is in fact the direction that we are going with the story.
ABC has already been kind enough to release per Entertainment Weekly two of the first photos of Jennifer Morrison in action as this character, and we certainly feel for now like these are pretty awesome. We really like the first one below specifically, since it is almost emotionally jarring. With her hair bulled back and with the lighting, the costuming, and the makeup, this feels almost like a completely different person. The second one is cool more from a stylistic point of view, though we do feel somewhat for Granny now that she is going to have to clean the bar of her diner.
While Emma may now have with Dark One’s power within her (plus this makeover), this does not necessarily mean that she is going to completely embrace what comes along with it at all. After all, just take a look for a minute here at what executive producer Edward Kitsis had to say about what she is going to do to fight it:
“Every part of her is fighting her dark urges … What happens when [the darkness] mixes with the lightest magic of all, and will Emma have the strength to fight it? … We are going to be exploring love and what happens when you use it as a weapon and what are the things that it makes you do. In the past, we’ve said love is the most powerful magic of all. It makes you do many things you normally wouldn’t think you would.”
Could there be a new Savior as a result of all of these role reversals? It definitely seems like it. In many ways, what is so exciting about this new story is that almost everyone should be in a new place. Rumpelstiltskin is no longer some feared villain, while Regina may have incentive to protect Henry. Snow and Charming, meanwhile, may have a hard time reconciling that their daughter is someone who is the epitome of bad news.
