‘Mistresses’ season 3, episode 4 review: April’s new romance, Calista’s old romance, and Karen’s big move

Mistresses -Mistresses” season 3 has been waiting for an episode quite like tonight’s “Into the Woods.” This was by far the best episode of the season, mostly in terms of delivering multiple shades to many different characters, while at the same time being incredibly entertaining.

Let’s start here by talking about Karen, the who probably had the most shocking story in how she decided to get involved in a relationship with not just Alec, but also Vivian. Why do this? She is a woman with so much love to give, but almost simultaneously she is completely terrible when it comes to giving it. Something does not compute properly for her, and she continues to put herself in chaotic situations like this.

At least April is getting herself in a better position with Principal Blair … right? Well, she got a good look at him, if nothing else, during a school camping trip with her daughter Lucy. This is the closest attempt to happiness that April has probably found throughout this season so far, even if there is at present no real guarantee that this will remotely last. It’s at least hopeful … which is more than we can say for Calista at the moment.

We really feel for our newest Mistress, mostly because we’ve seen time and time again that she is a powerful woman. Yet, she is struggling with the notion of getting away from Luca, a powerful man … but also not an honest one. He may have roped her back in for a minute, but the scenes with him and her together have to make you uneasy. Already, it is fairly easy to telegraph that the ending for these characters is not exactly going to be pretty.

Finally, are Harry and Joss in big trouble? Let’s just say that Niko’s deletion skills may cause just enough ambiguity to send these two on a downward spiral. Given how much Joss gave up for this, it would be pretty terrible for this to end so soon. Episode Grade: B+.
