‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Rachel Talalay returns to direct finale

Did you enjoy “Dark Water” and “Death in Heaven,” the final two episodes of “Doctor Who” season 8? If you find yourself answering this question with a “yes,” you will be pleased to know that Rachel Talalay is going to be coming back for the final two episodes of season 9. Similar to the eighth season, these two episodes are once again going to be connected, and they should help to tie things up before the show comes back with a Christmas Special. These final two episodes are going to be filmed this month.

We may as well go ahead and ask the question that is definitely on our mind: Does this mean that Michelle Gomez could return as the Master in these episodes? By no means are an actor and director tied together, but it feels to us almost like this would be the perfect time to see her turn up. We know that she will be back at some point during the ninth season.

There is no official premiere date for season 8 just yet, but it is pretty safe to assume that it will be coming out in August. This is the trajectory that the show went on last year, and we’re expecting more of the same here.

For now, all of the advice that we can give you revolves around reading up at the news from San Diego Comic-Con. The show will be back with a panel this year, and this includes Peter Capaldi making his first visit to the convention as the Doctor.
