‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: John Barrowman finalizes return as Malcolm Merlyn

Arrow -Just in case you were concerned slightly that John Barrowman was going to slip off of “Arrow” now that Malcolm is the new head of the League of Assassins, have no fear! The actor himself has officially confirmed that a deal is done.

Ultimately, it appears that this was something creatively that both parties were interested in, and it was also never about money, either. As Barrowman explained at the Amazing Las Vegas Comic-Con (see the video below), the only real details that had to be hammered out were ones related to scheduling. This is not exactly much of a surprise, given that he is also a presenter and performer and consistently has a lot on his plate. He’s also a frequent traveler, given that he goes to various conventions around the world.

While Barrowman of course could not say a whole lot in regards to the return of Malcolm to the show, he did tease that there is definitely reason to be excited. Based on some early suggestions from star Stephen Amell, Thea a.k.a. Speedy is going to be at the forefront for much of the beginning of the season, and this could lead to some of the reasoning behind him going back to Starling City. There will also be a time jump of several months, which makes sense given the show is going off the air for a while.

Barrowman also confirms in here that production for season 4 starts next month, which makes sense given that this is when it has the past couple of years. The show should return in October.
