‘Call the Midwife’ season 5: When could Helen George, cast return to BBC?
It’s a little of a slow news time at the moment when it comes to “Call the Midwife,” given that the show is done both in Britain and America, and it may not be back for a little while.
So just when could Helen George and company come back on the air? We should start by saying that first and foremost, there will be another Christmas Special airing at the end of the year. That will be something worthwhile to tide you over for a while, though we know that it will probably not satisfy in the long-term. These stories tend to somewhat stand on their own, and we don’t anticipate much in the way of a huge cliffhanger at all. This past one seemed to be a good way to have closure on the Jennifer Worth character.
Our feeling is that in the UK, season 5 will most likely premiere on the BBC come around Sunday, January 17. The past few seasons have also premiered in this same sort of time frame, and this is a window that does seem to suit the show very well. Why drift from what works? It delivers hefty ratings here, and there is not much else in the way of competition in that spot.
As for whether or not season 5 could be the show’s last, we have not heard anything. Personally, we’d at least like to see it match “Downton Abbey” and make it all the way to six, since that will get it past the 50-episode mark when you include the Christmas specials in there.
