‘Wayward Pines’ episode 5 shocker: What is ‘the truth’?

Let’s just say that there is a reason why Thursday night’s new episode of “Wayward Pines” was entitled “The Truth.” Someone clearly wanted the most shocking event of the entire season so far to be in this episode, and judging from the social-media reaction to this twist, we imagine that many of you did not see this one coming … even if it feels very much like something M. Night Shyamalan (who is an executive producer) would do.

Well, this shocker feels somewhat like “The Village,” except here what we have learned is that this “town” is actually more than 2,000 years in the future! We’re witnessing the downfall of human civilization, or at least what is being purported as that. The biggest thing that you have to remember here is perspective, and there is always a possibility that we are being misled.

The show revealed the shocker, went to commercial break, and then eventually explained to us how this happened: This was almost a form of hibernation, where these people were “chosen” to come to this world, and make sure that the human race would survive.

Ultimately, we still have zero idea how in the world the show is going to pay all of this off, but we do greatly admire them at least for just making this bold a move. It takes serious guts, and for the most part we admire it when a show wants to do something as daring as this.
