‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 4 review: A cinnamon roll rumble

MasterChef -When you see that the first “MasterChef” team challenge of the season is set in an amusement park, don’t you want to see everyone have a little bit of fun? For most of the episode, we’re not sure that Darah was smiling as much as she really wanted to. This is a woman who actually works at an amusement park, not that this really gives her any sort of huge advantage when it comes to actual cooking.

The problem with her team was simply a matter of disorganization. There was chaos! Also, there was some fish coming out raw for a short period of time. Usually we find that these team challenges are fake-outs, but we actually saw this one coming most of the time. The Red Team led by Kerry had more organization, and while they were far from perfect (he tried at times to do too much, really to the point where he forgot certain things), they seemed to be far more consistent from start to finish.

This led of course into the Pressure Test, and the patented “you can save five members from your team, including yourself” gamble. Hats off to Darah for taking the fall, and an even bigger hat off to Hetal, a contestant who was given safety that she refused. Given what she did in the cinnamon roll challenge at the very end, we understand why. She can really cook! We don’t always love this particular challenge, mostly because of the fact that there is only so much you can really do in terms of creativity. At least the cooks this time tried their best.

It felt during the challenge that the real showdown was between Tommy and Darah, given that neither did things perfectly. In the case of the former, he simple created one ugly box of rolls! (Strange, given his profession.) Darah just didn’t get hers cooked. This was just a bad episode for her, and her elimination is the culmination of all of it. Tommy did make better cinnamon rolls seemingly, but who would’ve wanted to see this big personality go home so soon?
