‘Elementary’ season 4 spoilers: John Noble to be Sherlock’s father (and series regular)

ElementaryWe were excited to hear for the first time that Sherlock Holmes’ father was going to be a major character of the upcoming fourth season of “Elementary.” However, what we did not expect was that we were going to see so much of him that he would be a series regular … or that this series regular would be John Noble.

This news was first reported earlier today, and it should be a major cause of celebration for everyone who loves the show. Noble is someone who brings to the series an established resume courtesy of “Fringe” and “Sleepy Hollow,” and to go along with that is also a fantastic actor who can play fantastic father / son relationships beautifully. What makes this particular one so interesting is that Holmes’ father is a character who has already been steeped in mystery. We know him to be a fascinating character and someone with a very complication relationship with Jonny Lee Miller’s character.

More than anything else, we feel like this is the significant shot in the arm for the series that it so desperately needed going into season 4. We’ve been rather bummed out as of late by the lack of either iconic Sherlock Holmes characters, or notable guest stars.

Now, let’s just hope that we get another appearance from either Mycroft or Moriarty before season 4 comes to a close. It will premiere on CBS later this fall, after Thursday Night Football officially comes to a close. We’ll have more news as it happens.
