MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5 spoilers: The latest new addition

While “Awkward” is not going to begin the first half of its final season until August 31, we’re going to hop in a time machine for a minute and talk a little bit about some casting that will impact the second half of season 5 … which in turn is probably not going to air until some point in 2016.

According to Deadline, former “Glee” and “Malibu Country” actor Justin Prentice is being brought on board a globe-trotting Princeton student by the name of Patrick, who could end up being either a confidante or a potential love interest for Tamara. His casting comes after we learned about some ambitious plans for the second half of the final season. Rather than showing the immediate aftermath of graduation / the summer before everyone goes off to college, we are going to see the story flash-forward a year, after everyone has spent some time in other parts of the country doing other things. Maybe that year will give some of these characters further perspective, and potentially make them all the more grateful for what they have in Palos Hills.

We don’t want to really spend too much time overthinking how a show like “Awkward” should end. To us, it feels pretty inevitable that the series will conclude with some movement at least for Jenna and Matty. Otherwise, what’s really been the point? We’ll also continue to hold out hope for Tamara and Jake, though it’s still clear that the two have some growing up to do before they can really handle being in any sort of relationship.

Given that the second half of this season is still so far away, we imagine that we’ll have much more to report on in due time.
