‘UnREAL’: Watch first nine minutes of Lifetime’s scripted take on reality TV

We know that there are many Lifetime cynics out there, and we get it after some of their original movies that have come out and flopped. However, we’re here to tell you right now that their new series “UnREAL” premiering on Monday night may be one of the best things that they’ve ever done. It’s bold, brash, and a fantastic take on the reality TV process, and we say that as someone who has experienced the machine first-hand.

The cast for this show includes Shiri Appleby and Constance Zummer in what may be one of her most powerful roles to date as a cutthroat producer on the set of what is clearly a spoof on “The Bachelor.” It’s over-the-top, ridiculous, and while it may be an exaggeration at times of what it is actually like, there are many scenarios within what we’ve seen of the show so far (which is about half of the first episode) that we clearly recognize and know are elements that the average viewer would be surprised to learn.

Below, you can take a quick look at the first nine minutes of the show for yourself! Hopefully, this is enough to have you hooked.

What we worry about right now is just who the audience for this show really will be. We feel like many “Bachelor” / “Bachelorette” fans buy into the fantasy of it all, and don’t want to imagine a world where all that glitters is not gold. Meanwhile, some who actually would like the show may be scared away just by viewing the show superficially.

While we cannot speak for the entire show just yet, we still do highly recommend checking out the premiere. It’s fascinating, and while it certainly is cynical, there may be a heart somewhere in here.
