Ratings: ‘Wayward Pines’ steady; ‘Bones’ season 10 up; ‘Aquarius’ starts low
It’s hard to really have an enormous victory with any programming in the summer. After all, it’s the summer! Who is going to commitment to appointment-viewing when there are so many different options out there, especially if you’re living in a part of America where it is freezing a good four or five months of the year?
Therefore, sometimes networks take what they can get. For Fox, we imagine that they have to be at least reasonably happy with how they fared Thursday night. While a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” won the night with a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic (somewhat low for a repeat of this show), “Bones” season 10 and “Aquarius” each tied for #1 on the night in terms of new programming with a 1.2. Is this something worth a giant press release? No, but “Bones” did improve from its last new episode that aired a couple of weeks ago, while “Wayward Pines” continues to hold onto its entire viewership week-to-week. That is the most impressive thing about it so far, and it is gradually proving to us that there is quite possibly more staying power here than we presumed there would be.
Over on NBC, what we’ve learned is that we may not be entirely in the age of “Aquarius.” Despite a pretty strong promotional campaign, the David Duchovny series launched to just a 1.0 rating, though it can at least claim that it was the most-watched original scripted program of the night with 5.7 million people checking it out. Obviously, the thing to remember here is that numbers will be skewed, with the show being available to watch in its entirely On Demand and on NBC.com. Still, we should point out that while these methods of viewing are rising in popularity, it represents just a fraction of overall viewers at this point.
Ultimately, we’ll have a greater sense of who is watching “Aquarius” come next week, as that episode will have been available online for several days.
