‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 3 preview: The leftovers

MasterChef -We have to admit that we were not altogether fired up about the premiere of “MasterChef” this past week, and there is really one simple reason for that: What did the show really accomplish here other than setting the stage for the real meat of the season? We really prefer the show when it just starts off with 20-24 contestants and really gets rolling from there. It allows us to get to know some of the truly important characters almost right away.

Wednesday night, we are getting back to this point in the competition that we so love, and we have what we personally feel to be a rather inspired Mystery Box challenge: The home cooks have to make a dish using what they have back in their fridges at home. We’re not sure how the show got this information (maybe it was on the contestant application or something), but they have a challenge of using food they know very well, even though it may not always work in tandem.

In particular, it appears already like one contestant is going to have a massive disadvantage after it is revealed that their ingredients are just a random hodgepodge of everything, and that they have really eclectic taste at home. This should make things in particular challenging.

So here’s a note to future contestants: If you get this question, say that you have really impressive food in your fridge! Okay, just kidding. Be honest, since making a lot out of a little will impress the judges more.
