‘Survivor: Second Chance’: Why Terry Deitz is worthy of your vote
How in the world has Terry Deitz not been brought back to “Survivor”? This is a guy who in many ways was the driving force behind much of the story in the first “Exile Island,” mostly because he was one of the most dominating competitors we’ve ever seen. In between his super-powered immunity idol and winning challenges, he was safe for the vast majority of the time after the merge. He was eventually voted out by Danielle at the final three, and Aras ended up winning the season.
Given Terry’s popularity, he was probably approached at least a few times since, but it hasn’t quite worked out. We interviewed him years ago for a different project, and he’d said then that he had at least gone through some of the process to return before. Now is his time for “Survivor: Second Chance,” provided that he gets the votes needed to make something happen.
Past experience – 3rd place (“Survivor: Panama: Exile Island”)
Why you should vote for him – Because he’s a huge presence, a big personality, a likable guy, and a competitor. He’s going to fight hard every minute that he’s out there, and he is one of the most imposing men in his age demographic that we’ve ever seen on the show. If this season was five years ago, we don’t think there would be hesitation at all when it comes to him coming back.
Why you wouldn’t vote for him – The only real reason is that you’re worried about his social game (which was not always the best), or you just did not watch his first season. You really should, though; Casaya is one of the greatest tribe trainwrecks ever, and you have great characters from Cirie to Shane to Courtney who all made it far.
Our prediction – If Terry does not make it onto the season, something is terribly wrong. We’re not going to call him a lock, but we’d say that Terry is probably in around the 7th or 8th position and should, pending a mass recency bias, get brought back. He’s on our personal ballot.
