ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5: Expectations for Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, cast
Tonight, we say farewell to a show for the spring to a show in “Scandal” that has definitely been a force to be reckoned with throughout the entire fourth season, though in some ways, we have also heard many an argument that this season is still lagging somewhat behind season 3. What is the missing link here? It’s not that this season has done anything wrong per se; instead, it is more of a testament to the fact that last season just had more new characters and events. B613 was a little fresher at that time, whereas now it is something that has been a part of the show’s universe for some time. We know it well, and there is not the same element of surprise or danger with it that it used to be.
Would season 5 be better suited without it around anymore? While we do not like necessarily saying this, it probably would. The show could benefit from having a few moments here and there to breathe, and find some new avenues to explore. Mellie’s political career is a great one, or exploring some other avenue of Olivia’s past.
Obviously, there is zero doubt that we will continue to see Kerry Washington and tony Goldwyn each as enormous parts of the series, and we figure that it is always possible that Olivia Pope and Fitz find their way back to each other again. We have always felt that the two are endgame, so why back away from that now?
While next season will be the fifth, and this show probably does have more of a shelf life than “Grey’s Anatomy,” we should also be clear that we do not see it ending anytime in the near future.
