‘American Idol XIV’ review: How Jax, Clark Beckham, Rayvon Owen, Nick Fradiani fared on top 5 show

American Idol -We are now in the home stretch of “American Idol,” which is for the most part going to be an interesting race to the finish line. While we would say that Clark Beckham is the consensus favorite (note: We’re writing this before the results), we also know that almost anything can happen on this show.

There are three rounds tonight, so we are going to offer up our thoughts on the season in waves. We also have hometown visits, so for those of you who really love those sort of packages, you will most likely going to get teary-eyes while watching it. Otherwise, you may just feel that the show is overstuffed.

Round 1 (Scott Borchetta picks) – The in-house mentor has some interesting taste, mostly when it comes to getting Clark to sing U2. Wait, why? This was a strange round of performances, and we’d say that Jax had the best performance with “My Generation.” We’d then say that Nick Fradiani was in second place for his rocking cover of “Because the Night.” The other choices were just off.

Round 2 (hometown choice) – Once again, Jax killed it with “My Immortal.” It was another strong outing for Nick, and Rayvon did really well with a Stevie Wonder hit. While Clark is the favorite, he actually has been the weakest in both of the first two rounds.

Round 3 (judges’ choice) – Maybe Clark should dress like Christian Grey more often? This was the round where he could redeem himself, and he did in a big way! Great performance, and one that probably sets the stage for a more interesting vote. Jax, meanwhile, had her weakest outing with “Misery Business.”
