‘The Flash’ episode 21 spoilers: All about the whole Barry / Iris / Eddie debate

While a love triangle does not certainly define everything when it comes to “The Flash,” it would be silly for us to sit here and say that it has almost zero bearing on everything that we see on the show when that is very much not the case. Next to getting revenge on Harrison Wells, Barry Allen’s love for Iris West is one of his biggest driving factors. That may be seen as even more so now that he knows that the two of them are destined to be married someday per the newspaper byline.

Here’s the tricky thing about time travel: Maybe his future in that clipping is assuming that the path remains as-is. There are still multiple opportunities for that future to change, and for Barry to mess that up. How he handles Iris and her present feelings for Eddie, especially after she learns the truth about his alter ego, is one of those key turning points.

In the wake of all that happens, Candice Patton tells TVLine that much of her story in the immediate future is going to be trying to reconcile some of the feelings that she has for Eddie with the fact that there is something there with Barry, and it may come to the surface even more now that she connects him to this heroic figure:

“There’s a lot that she’s having to think about — not just her feelings for Barry and for The Flash, but the fact that Eddie is missing and that she loves him. She’s going to continue to be conflicted about her feelings for both men. I mean, we havent seen anything from Eddie except that he’s a good man and he loves Iris and he treats her well, so she’s really in a difficult place. But at the same time, it’s evident to everyone who watches the show that Iris has feelings for Barry that she’s just not ready to deal with.”
