‘Secrets and Lies’ finale spoilers: The ‘who killed Tom?’ mystery comes to a close

Secrets and Lies -We’ve said this before, but there were times earlier this spring where we wrote off “Secrets and Lies” as a contender to last on the ABC schedule. However, we’re glad to be proven wrong from time to time! While there is still no guarantee that the show will be renewed for a second season, it drew some of its best ratings over the course of last weekend, and there seems to be genuine investment in the mystery at the center of the show: Who killed Tom? It is the most investment that we have seen with a serialized mystery since the end of “How to Get Away with Murder.”

Luckily, the finale is promising some answers, and this includes Cornell and Ben making some key decisions that could alter just about everything. Now, let’s just hope that the does doesn’t take a page from AMC’s “The Killing” and not give us the closing that we’ve been hoping to have.

Fittingly, the finale title is “The Lie” (a little repetitive, but whatever), and you can see the official synopsis below:

“Certain that he is not responsible for Tom’s death, Ben tries to finally relax and enjoy the Christmas that he missed with his family — until a shocking discovery changes his plans. Meanwhile, with the evidence having been re-tested, Cornell puts all the pieces together and prepares to make an arrest. But in the stunning conclusion, Ben makes a decision that will change his family’s life forever.”

What we wonder beyond the finale is that if this case is solved, where do you go for season 2? Do you find something that is just as complicated to investigate? Luckily, we feel like this is the sort of world where almost anything is possible.
