‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 8, episode 23 preview: When mothers collide

Big Bang Theory -Let us start this particular “Big Bang Theory” preview with a moment of celebration. Christine Baranski’s coming back! Sure, we have seen her many times now pop in as Leonard’s mother, but most of the time it is via Skype. She is busy filming “The Good Wife” in New York most of the season, and there’s not much room in there for cross-country travel.

Luckily, the schedule clearly aligned enough for her to make an appearance on Thursday night, and the promo below offers up a quick taste specifically of what we can expect here. First and foremost, Leonard’s mother seems to be continuing her bizarre interest in Sheldon Cooper as a specimen. It is pretty easy in the end to uncover why she finds him so fascinating. After all, this is a woman who is a master of psychology, and he has enough material in his brain to keep any renowned person in this field occupied for decades.

This is not the only wonderful thing about this episode, as we are also getting the return of Laurie Metcalf as Sheldon’s mother to go along with it! The “meeting of the mothers” has already been greatly-hyped, but we are still very much invested in seeing where this goes, and just how much comedy the series will be able to mine from it before the half-hour ends. These are two women who come from very different walks of life, and do not have much in common in terms of how to raise a child.

Tomorrow, we’ll be back with some sneak peeks. Be on the lookout!
