‘Dancing with the Stars’ 20 review: Chris Soules, Riker Lynch, and Rumer Willis travel in time

Rumer Willis -On tonight’s new episode of “Dancing with the Stars,” the contestants are going to be time traveling! Well, at least they will in their dances. Each performer will perform a routine from a given era, and then there will be some sort of group dance competition at the end of the episode. Going into it, most of the real drama surrounded the condition of Derek Hough, who was injured last week and unable to take part in the 10th anniversary special (which was already filmed). Sure, there was also an elimination at the end of the episode, but this is something we can get into a little more in-depth when we get to that particular article.

For the time being, let’s just get to taking a look at some of the individual dances on the night.

Riker Lynch and Allison Holker, ’20s Quickstep – You knew that this was going to be great, right? Of course it was! It was baseball-themed, fun, and fast-paced. He did the quickstep proud tonight. Score: 37.

Chris Soules and Witney Carson, ’40s Foxtrot – We thought that this would be pretty solid, and it was. Have we seen Chris really find a second gear in the competition? Not really, but we at least feel like he’s trying. Score: 31.

Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy, ’60s Jazz – This wasn’t a bad routine, but it was a little lethargic. It felt almost like Rumer injured herself during some of her rehearsals and was therefore a little too nervous to be energetic during the routine itself. Score: 35.

Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess, ’70s Jazz – Admittedly, we were starting to completely write off Noah as a serious contender, and then he goes off and does something like this. What a quirky, fun performance this was. A little over-scored, but we won’t mind since it was an improvement. Score: 36.

Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson, ’80s Argentine tango – Somewhere along the lines this season, the judges decided that they really did not care for Robert as a dancer. While not perfect, he did enough getting into the atmosphere and character of the dance that he was at least better than Chris and close to Noah. Score: 31.

Nastia Liukin and Sasha Farber, Modern Charleston – As we figured, Nastia was great regardless of her partner. Derek Hough still found a way to get himself involved, but he may not be able to dance with her for the remainder of this season. Score: 38.

Willow Shields and Mark Ballas, futuristic jazz – So … ninjas? This was so weird and bizarre that we don’t really know what was going on for most of the time, let alone how they were scored so high for it when Riker was clearly better. Score: 37.

As for the results, head over here and prepare to be shocked.
