‘Britain’s Got Talent’ review: Jamie Raven, Henry Gallagher, Jeffrey Drayton rule second audition show
Saturday brought us another new episode of “Britain’s Got Talent,” and with that came yet another simple reminder that this is a TV show first and foremost. There are many things that we consistently appreciate about what they give us, from the judges to the golden buzzer moments that get our hearts thumping.
The reason we mention this is that at this point, you’re really not watching this show hoping for a star; instead, you just want to have fun. Very few people on the show become household names. At least most of the lineup tonight managed to make us smile.
Jessie-Jane McParland – She’s a little kid who can do karate and some impressive sword-work. He’s a more deceptive Arya Stark! The problem here is that now that the surprise factor is over, what else can she do?
Acqua Jane and Delores – A delightfully terrible folk “duo” (really, one of them does all the work) that will probably make for an awkward moment in the live shows.
Boyband – They’re actually a dance crew, and the Golden Buzzer recipients of Ant & Dec! Certainly, they are deserving; they are choreographed well, slick, and have fun personalities. We do tend to prefer acts getting the buzzer who really need the extra support, but we’re not going to slight this one.
Joseph Friedmann – Yep, this guy got through by playing the bells, which the majority of every good German restaurant out there has.
Becky O’Brien – The singer and mother of five had the edit of a “BGT” superstar, and for the most part she delivered. It wasn’t the most innovative audition we’ve ever heard, but what a smooth, silky sound she has in her voice.
Jeffrey Drayton – Jeffrey really is one of the best bad acts that we’ve seen! He’s a terrible ventriloquist, he screwed up the trick, and yet there was still payoff at the end of the act. We still don’t know why he wore roller skates.
Jamie Raven – A genuinely cool magician. We’ve seen variations on this card trick before, but it still may be one of our favorites that we’ve witnessed on this show. He had such a cool demeanor about him that this was easy to love.
Henry Gallagher – Our final performer of the night was a super-energetic kid with a love song for a girl he fancies. We cannot say anything negative here; while he may not ever get that girl, he did get the hearts of many in Britain.
