‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 6, episode 20 preview: Kensi joins Callen undercover

CallenWe know that Deeks is not the jealous type now that he and Kensi are in an exclusive relationship on “NCIS: Los Angeles,” but Monday night’s new episode of the crime show is all about Callen going undercover in order to infiltrate a criminal group, and part of that cover is going to involve Kensi in a romantic way.

His character here is a convict who has spent the past six months in prison, and the other guys he’s been with would have likely questioned him had he brought in Deeks suddenly to be an asset. Bringing in Kensi under the guise of his girlfriend, however, is an entirely different story and gives his ruse a lot more weight. The two kiss and act romantic to try to play the part, when in reality this is just another set of eyes to ensure that nothing terrible happens to either one of them as they try to land the bad guy.

From one standpoint, we love these sort of episodes. Undercover work is not something we see a ton of on “NCIS” proper these days, and Sam and Callen are particularly great at it when it does happen. However, this is also some of the most dangerous work that they can do. While we don’t have any fear about either series regular getting killed off, there are other ways that the show can punish the characters for their actions, including getting captured for a while and separated from the rest of the team. If they remain in a bad situation until a finale, that is where something truly shocking could occur. Everyone loves their big cliffhanger endings, right?
